    MAKE FOOTPRINTS TO BUNDABERG

                                           AND SEE THE TURTLES!!

THE BAD, THE GOOD AND THE UGLY!!

A few things have changed at Footprints, but the vibe is still the same. Please read on...

Turtle Season Update

The BAD news is, the 2011/2011 turtle season has finished. The female turtles have all returned to where they live, some hundreds of kilometres away. The baby turtles they left behind in the sand as eggs, have hatched and run to the awaiting ocean.

The GOOD news is, the next turtle season is only seven months away!! Footprints will offer FREE transport to Mon Repos turtle rookery if you stay in our hostel. You buy your entry ticket and make your own way home.

NOW, THE UGLY - BIGFOOT Hostel

Our small Feeding Grounds backpacker, which was ranked number 1 in Bundaberg by the Lonely Planet, has morphed into BIGFOOT BACKPACKERS.

Yes, it is bigger and a bit uglier, but there's more room for travelers and its AIR CONDITIONED - something you really need in Bundaberg when its 90% humidity and 35 degrees.

It's also very CONVENIENT. Right at the coach/bus terminal and close to McDonalds!!, pubs and shops. Please check out out hostel page for further details. Back to the turtles..

What's unique about Mon Repos Turtle Rookery?

Most turtle rookeries are on islands or very hard to get at places. However, here in Bundaberg we are very lucky. Just 15km from the city is one of the most important LOGGERHEAD turtle rookeries in the southern hemisphere.

And it's pretty easy to get there.  You can experience the wonders of the Mon Repos turtle rookery!!

Here's how -

1. Book your ticket (see below approx $10.50)

2. STAY AT OUT HOSTEL, will take you there FREE of charge & you catch a taxi or find a ride home

However, you MUST FIRST book your ENTRY TICKET through the local info centre, Bundaberg Region, or you may be disappointed. This is especially important on weekends and summer school holidays, when the rookery is often booked out.

HERE'S A FEW TURTLE FACTS

Turtle season usually starts in the first week of November and ends late March/early April.

You need to purchase your entry ticket beforehand at the local info centre, Bundaberg Region.

On this small, but wonderful beach, from early November to early April, you can can watch giant sea turtles dig a nest and lay their eggs. Later, their incredibly cute and quite tiny babies race to the freedom of the ocean.  This is such a unique and wonderful experience it is "highly recommended" by Lonely Planet. You can't get any better than that.
